Observations: Top-Down View vs. High-Angle View in Image Creation

Let’s explore an interesting observation while experimenting with creating top-down shots and high-angle views using AI tools like MidJourney and ChatGPT.

In Image 1, which was created using ChatGPT, the result aligns perfectly with a top-down shot, as the camera is positioned directly overhead, capturing the baby’s crown and surroundings from a true 90-degree angle. This is an accurate representation of the prompt provided.

However, when the same prompt was given to MidJourney, as seen in Image 2 (right side screenshots), the outputs were not top-down shots but more aligned with high-angle views, where the camera is angled slightly above the subject, creating a perspective where the baby appears to be looking up. This is a limitation of MidJourney, which often struggles to interpret the concept of a top-down view in such contexts.

Interestingly, by tweaking the phrasing of the prompt, as shown in Image 3, using specific terms like “Pure vertical overhead shot, camera perpendicular to the floor”, MidJourney was able to produce a proper overhead shot. This demonstrates that slight changes in the phrasing of your prompt can significantly influence the output.

Key Takeaway:
